How does a phone call to the Samaritans start?

First they will tell you their first name and will ask for your first name. They don't ask for your name so that they can track you or anything they just want the call to be more personal. The whole goal of Samaritans is so befriend someone in a short 10-20min call. After that they will ask you what you want to talk about. It can really be anything. If you don't know what to say they will come up with something general like how is school? how are your friends? ect. If you are feeling suicidal they will ask you if they can call an ambulance for you or someone close to you. The choice is totally up to you. You can say yes or no, and if you say no they won't call even if you are in the process of ODing or something. You can really talk about anything you want. The purpose is just to build a connection with another human for a short time. Good luck!
